...From Flyn "This tool is absolutely awesome for
converting color raster graphics to vector. This version is
unbelievably powerful."
VectorEye : characteristics
VectorEye is a raster to vector converter that exports to SVG (Scalable
Vector Graphics), Ps and Eps. Our third release can also export in
native Flash format and Xaml new windows Vista format.

It recognizes all major
raster formats (BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF) and makes the web raw materials.
Raster images made from pixels acquired from scanner or CCD camera can
be translated into scalable geometric shapes. Vector-based images are
the best way to display high quality graphics with the minimum amount
of information.
Extracting this information from raster images is a great challenge,
and algorithms will probably never replace our artistic sensitivity.
However VectorEye was designed to do better than current products, and
gives surprisingly good results.

VectorEye
combines efficient colour segmenting with robust curve fitting.
Algorithms were developed in close relationship with Research in image
processing and allowing artistic considerations.
The curve fitting is precise and allows you to use VectorEye to
vectorize fonts and inked drawings. Moreover, the curves are always
well preserved since the fitting can smoothe big curves without losing
details.
Unlike other tracing programs, it simplifies the result image by
removing non significant details and extracts the image essence. As a
result, files are much smaller and ready for the web.
VectorEye3 : BMP, TIFF, PNG, JPEG import, colour-in algorithm, non
significant regions merging, precise shape outlining, Bezier curve
fitting, SVG Ps Eps Flash Xaml exports, paste from the clipboard,
select zone, zoom, basic bitmap transformations (brightness, contrast,
gamme, hue, lightness, saturation, equalize, normalize, swap colors,
rotation, flip, resize, enhance, detect edges, color converter), batch
processes... In English, Spanish,
French.
VectorEye
has been evaluated by differents labs and in particular by the TASI:
The Technical Advisory tasi

logoService for Images is a JISC funded service. It provides advice and
guidance to the Further and Higher Education community for Creating
digital images, Delivering digital images to users and Using digital
images to support teaching, learning and research.
The conclusion is ...I would still
like to use it to experiment with -
and I havent had the chance yet to see how it handles video frames.
I
am still very impressed with the 'smoothness' of the rendered vectors
and the new adobe illustrator seems to import the svg files well and
will definately make sure anyone who enquires to the Tasi service is
aware of your software.
